BACKSTAGE BRITAIN
A behind the scenes tour that features four theatre performances, three backstage tours and two drama workshops. Fanatical about theatre? Enjoy this tour especially designed for every theatre buff.
Itinerary
Day 1: Travel from America
Day 2: Tower of London / Thames River Cruise
Visit the Tower of London focusing especially on Shakespeare’s histories, including Henry IV and Richard III. Then it’s all aboard for a Thames River Cruise for river views of the London Eye and the Globe Theatre.
Day 3: Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre / Tate Modern or St Paul’s
Visit the reconstructed Globe Theatre to take part in a drama workshop and be an Elizabethan actor for the day. In the afternoon, we watch one of Shakespeare’s plays in its original open air setting!
Day 4: Westminster Abbey / National Theatre Backstage Tour and Performance
Visit Westminster Abbey, House of Kings and Poets’ Corner before we head off to the National Theatre for a backstage tour. In the evening, choose from any of the plays on offer at the National for some award winning British theatre!
Day 5: Stratford
A day dedicated to the life and times of Shakespeare! Visit Shakespeare’s Birthplace, see where he spent his school days, and find out why he put a curse on his own grave. End the day with an RSC theatre performance.
Day 6: Warwick and Oxford
Walk the walls of Warwick Castle, built by William the Conqueror. Attend a Royal Weekend Party, try on some armour and watch an archery exhibit. In the afternoon, visit Oxford, the university of JRR Tolkein and CS Lewis and see locations featured in the Harry Potter films.
Or Drama Exchange
Visit a local school and join in with their drama classes. A great chance to meet British students and exchange drama ideas in a workshop environment.
Day 7: Theatre Royal Drury Lane / Theatre Museum Workshop / West End Musical
Take a backstage tour of the Theatre Royal Drury Lane and wander through three hundred years of theatre history with your costumed guide. Experience some local colour in a make-up workshop at Covent Garden’s Theatre Museum before attending a West End musical.
Day 8: Return to America
