This tour combines the essentials of our 8-day tour with additional excursions that take you a little more off the beaten track.
Itinerary
Day 1: Travel from America
Day 2: Tower of London / Thames River Cruise
Visit the Tower of London and meet Henry VIII and his six wives! Learn about the kings in Shakespeare’s histories and feast your eyes on the Crown Jewels. Then it’s all aboard for a Thames River Cruise.
Day 3: Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre / St Paul’s Cathedral / Tate Modern
Experience Shakespeare in its original setting by participating in a drama workshop at the Globe Theatre. Visit Wren’s masterpiece, St Paul’s Cathedral, built after the London fire of 1666. Finally, get your head around some mind bending art at the Tate Modern.
Day 4: Warwick Castle / Stratford
Walk on the castle walls, try on some armour and attend a Royal Weekend party at Warwick Castle, built by William the Conqueror in 1068. We then travel to Stratford to celebrate the life and times of Shakespeare. End the day with a play at the Royal Shakespeare Company’s theatre.
Day 5: Oxford
Be inspired by the dreaming spires of Oxford as you tour the colleges of this world famous university. Follow in the footsteps of JRR Tolkein, CS Lewis and visit the locations that were used in Harry Potter films.
Day 6: Canterbury
In our literary pilgrimage to this medieval walled city, we will follow the trail of Chaucer and characters of The Canterbury Tales to learn about medieval life. Then we visit Canterbury’s awe inspiring cathedral.
Day 7: London: Westminster Abbey / British Museum Theatre Royal Drury Lane / West End Theatre
After a visit to Westminster Abbey and Poets’ Corner, it’s off to the British Museum to see the Rosetta Stone, Egyptian mummies and the Parthenon marbles. We end the day with a backstage tour of the Theatre Royal Drury Lane and a West End theatre performance.

Option A Stonehenge and Bath
Experience the mysterious prehistoric stone triptychs of Stonehenge. Then travel to Bath to promenade with Georgian high society as you see the city through the eyes of some of its most famous visitors, including Jane Austen and Charles Dickens.
Option B Stonehenge and Glastonbury
On our quest for King Arthur, we travel to the real Isle of Avalon, Glastonbury. On this tour we take you to Arthur’s final resting place and lead you to the Holy Grail.
Option C Hampton Court
Accompanied by a costumed guide, tour Henry VIII’s riverside Tudor palace on the outskirts of London. Visit the Tudor kitchens and formal gardens before finding your own way around Hampton Court’s world-famous maze.
Option D The Road less Travelled, Brighton and Arundel
Experience the Great British seaside in the holiday resort of Brighton. Then visit Arundel Castle, family home of the Duke of Norfolk since the 15th century, and take in compelling aeriel views across the rolling Sussex countryside.
Option E Osborne House, Isle of Wight (May to September)
The doors of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert’s private summer home are thrown open for you to gain a privileged insight into the home life of the Royal Family. The children’s rooms, bathing machines and gardens are just some of the highlights of this extraordinary day out.
Day 10: Return to America
