Italy: Rome and Tuscany - Tailor Made

ITALY:ROME AND TUSCANY

Itinerary

  • Day 1: Travel from America

  • Day 2: WELCOME TO ITALY: ROMA

Rome, the eternal city built on the foundations of the legendary Romulus and Remus. On your arrival, enjoy a walking tour that takes in some of the most romantic and historic sites of this beautiful city. We start at Piazza Navona with its artists and fountains, before being awed by the Pantheon and gazing across Rome from the top of the Spanish Steps. We will also stop by the Trevi Fountain, to make a wish, that this won’t be your only time in Rome!

  • Day 3: VATICAN CITY

Today we visit a country all of its own. We start at the Vatican Museum with its unsurpassed collection of the world’s artistic treasures including apartments painted by Raphael, and the newly restored Sistine Chapel. In the afternoon, explore the inside of St Peter’s Basilica, the largest Christian church. In your free time, take a trip up the dome of St Peter’s for a view you will never forget.

  • Day 4: ANCIENT ROME: ROMAN FORUM and COLISSEUM

Nothing can prepare you for the first time you see the Roman Forum from Capitoline Hill – absolutely beautiful, an impressive complex that will take your breath away. Take a walk through this complex of market places, temples and triumphal arches and hear stories of Vestal Virgins and emperors like Augustus, Claudius and Nero. We then visit the Colisseum, for gruesome tales of gladiators, lions and sea battles fought in front of crowds of 80,000 plus.

  • Day 5: FLORENCE: DUOMO AND UFFIZI

Upon arrival to Florence we enjoy the beautiful Duomo with Brunelleschi\'s world famous dome. Climb all the way to the top for a stupendous view of Florence\'s colourful buildings and churches. We then have a wander through the Uffizi Gallery where every wall is covered with artistic treasures including Botticelli\'s Venus.

  • Day 6: FLORENCE: SAN MARCO, SANTA MARIA DEL CARMINE, PALAZZO VECCHIO, MEDICI RICCARDI PALACE

From secluded monasteries to the power of the Medici! Today you will be quietly encouraged into contemplation by Fra Angelico\'s frescoes at San Marco, and then be awed by the grandeur of the Palazzo Vecchio. We also visit the magnificent Palace Chapel to see Benozzo Gozzoli\'s Procession of the Magi. Its vibrant colours will take your breath away!

  • Day 7: SIENA, TUSCANY

Set on a three hills, and surrounded by fertile valleys, Siena is arguably the most beautiful city in Tuscany (if not all of Italy). Streets and lanes meander to reveal medieval churches and an enchanting collection of turrets and towers. Relax in Campo, one of Italy’s most sociable piazza’s or visit one of Siena’s many museum’s to sample art from the Sienese school. Amidst the olive trees and Tuscan countryside you will find Italy’s heart and soul.

  • Day 8: VENICE

What tour to Italy is complete without a trip to Venice! The Bridge of Sighs, San Marcos square and canals instead of sidewalks! Enjoy the last day of your tour meandering on water taxis, enjoying the art museums and doing some shopping!
